How to beat the `Blue Monday` blues...

Turn this depressing day into `MonYAY`.

Apparently the 17th January 2022 (or the third Monday in January) is the dreaded `Blue Monday` which was coined by a travel company some years ago as the most depressing day of the year...!

It's only natural that after the celebrations of Christmas, the darkness of winter, the need for payday to arrive and the long `dry January` that we may feel in need of a little sparkle in our lives.

So how do we shake ourselves out of this blue day and brighten ourselves up? Here are a few ideas...on how to make `Glum Day`, `MonYay...`

1. Find the bottle opener & open the Prosecco bottle

Joke, not a joke, kind of a joke...but it will bring a little sparkle. Ha ha.

2. Go for a walk in the great outdoors

Not only will walking on a regular basis keep you fit, healthy and help you shed some festive pounds, it will also brighten up your spirits and improve your mood. Walking is known to reduce stress, anxiety and fatigue and people who exercise regularly are 30% less likely to suffer from depression. So find your nearest wood, field, local park and walk that Blue Monday feeling away.

3. Book a Holiday

There's a reason why so many people book a holiday in January...it cheers us all up! If you know you want to go on holiday this year, now is a great time to get the holiday dates and destination that you want and to benefit from the excitement build up (i.e. it's great to have something to look forward to). It also means you have time to save up and spread the payments. If you can't afford a whole week away, how about a weekend break? Either way, get some fun booked into your diary and book your way out of the blue monday blues!

4. Listen to your favourite music

Music brings great joy to our lives and can really lift our mood, so get your favourite happy music on in the car or kitchen, home office, turn up the volume and enjoy the tunes. For an extra bit of fun, turn your kitchen or lounge into a family disco room and get the whole family involved... If all else fails, ask Alexa to play some happy music. Give it a whirl and dance your way out of this miserable day.

5. Call a friend- yes, that's right- speak to them :)

Forget WhatsApp, Messaging and texts today and pick up the phone to a favourite friend and speak to them. What a difference a good old natter with a friend can make. Give it a go and talk your way into feeling great :)

6. Get organised

A tidy space equals a tidy mind and getting organised can give you a real sense of achievement and help you feel ready to tackle anything that comes your way. So pick an area of your life that needs organising the most whether its your wardrobe, finances, desk or even just the washing pile and get it sorted. Organise your way into feeling like you're on top of the world!

7. Plan something adventurous

There's nothing like a good old adventure to dust off the cobwebs and get some much needed adrenaline into your life. Doing adventurous activities has been known to increase self-confidence and your mood and is also a lot of fun, which can only make you feel better about life. Climbing, canoeing, stand up paddleboarding, caving, high ropes etc...are all amazing ways to live life to the full. So get searching and let an adventurous spirit take over the blues...

We hope we've been able to help lift your mood on this depressing day. The key to making today (and the rest of the year) great is to take charge and do something (lots of things!) to cheer yourself up.

This is an amazing world we live in...You've got one life. Go and live it!
