What you'll be doing...
This 6 night family activity holiday offers an action-packed week of adventurous activities ranging from climbing to caving. Explore our sample holiday itinerary below to find out what's in store when you book this exciting family adventure...
There is a set activity programme throughout the week which you'll receive when you arrive. You can opt in & out of activities as you wish and as long as there's an adult in loco parentis of your child/ren then not all parents need to join in & you can even be dropped off somewhere along the way to the activities should you wish. This is a relaxed activity holiday that perfectly combines an exciting array of activities with the chance to see & explore the Yorkshire Dales. In the evenings we put on evening entertainment and there's plenty of time to relax, socialise, read a book and enjoy a tipple or two at the on-site bar or relax in our outdoor hygge campfire area.
Sample Holiday Itinerary
Welcome to HA
Make your way to High Adventure in Yorkshire and arrive in the afternoon & settle in.
Enjoy a relaxed dinner, a chance to meet some of the other families & then find out what is in store for the week & some evening entertainment.
Make use of our onsite bar, various social spaces and our outdoor Hygge area with its campfire pit for the perfect place to unwind.
Caves & Dales Day
After breakfast it's time to head off to the caves in Ribblehead via minibus, where you'll get to admire the famous viaduct (pretty incredible!). The caves are simple & in short sections & your instructor will ensure your safety & enjoyment. There are easy options so everyone can stay within their comfort zones. The caves are pretty amazing and the limestone has been formed over 350 million years!
After caving, it's time to explore one of the local towns on the way back & then time to relax before dinner & evening entertainment.
High Ropes, Zipline & Earl Crag
After breakfast, you'll enjoy half a day exploring & enjoying our onsite High Ropes course, which has four sections to it. You'll also get a go on our zipline which is awesome fun.
Relax and have lunch & then it's off to Earl Crag, an atmospheric gritstone outcrop topped by Wainman's Pinnacle and Lunds Tower (the latter you'll climb up & inside). You'll also have a go at weaselling & bouldering as well as an abseil if you wish to. It's then time to head back and relax before dinner followed by evening entertainment.
After breakfast it's time to head off by minibus to a local resevoir about 20 mins away where you'll enjoy a full day of water sports. For anyone not wanting to take part, we can drop you in Oakworth (where the Railway Childen was filmed) and you can enjoy a steam train ride (extra charge).
The water sports day includes kayaking, raft building & stand up paddleboarding. After a fun-filled day on the water, it's time to head back, relax & enjoy dinner and the evening entertainment.
Malham Cove & Goredale Scar
After breakfast it's time to head off to Malham Cove & Gordale Scare where you'll be amazed by its grandeur and scale. It's pretty impressive! Here we'll take a walk to Malham Cove where we can walk right to the top (if you wish). Numerous scenes for Harry Potter were filmed here. We'll also take the walk via the beautiful Janet's Foss to Gordale Scar where we'll scramble the rocks beneath this impressive feature & on the way back see some ancient settlement ruins. On the way back we'll stop at Billy Bob's Icecream Parlour where you can treat yourself to an icecream if you wish & the kids can enjoy the amazing adventure playground built from hay bales & rope swings (you won't want to leave!) In the evening, you can take us up on our free babysitting service if you wish and go out for the evening...or stay and relax at HA.
Climbing, Archery & Low Ropes
Today is a fun day at HA enjoying a range of our onsite activities including climbing, archery & low ropes. Climbing is a half day session and takes place on our indoor climbing wall. You'll start with some easy climbs & you can make it as difficult as you like as the climb progresses, guided by our instructors. After lunch, you'll enjoy a half day of finding out if you can actually fire a proper bow & arrow with any accuracy.
Once you have mastered the basics and safety is perfect then it’s competition time with interfamily competition, family v family and of course you will want to post a good score in the group vs group competition running throughout the week. You'll then
have a go at our deceptively difficult low ropes course. Low ropes has many different elements to it, perfect for a game of `The ground is lava`. After a fun day of adventure it's time to relax, have dinner & enjoy the evening entertainment.
Orienteering Competition, lunch & farewells
After breakfast it's time pack and then enjoy a fun on-site orienteering session, a great way to spend your time with the other families before you say farewell & head home, after lunch. What a great week!
Your Holiday, your choice...
Opt in & out of activities, as you wish
Our holidays have been created to ensure there's plenty of exciting things going on every day and in the evenings, but feel free to dip in and out as you wish if you want a slightly more relaxed pace. It's your holiday, your choice.
Opting out - alternative options...
As long as we have a parent or guardian nominated to be in loco parentis and with us on activity any ‘spare’ parents or guardians can opt out of any activity. Whole families can opt out in order to do their own thing or take advantage of the sight seeing opportunities we offer on any of the three off-site days.
Opting out allows you to create your own bespoke family experience within the framework of our activity programme.
If opting out of an on-site activity you will simply have time to relax or explore the beautiful surrounding area, we can point you in the right direction of course but transport is down to you.
If opting out of one of the three off site activity days we have options for you relating to that day as follows:
Cave & Dales Day:
There are two options available and are great for those who like a potter!
You can be dropped off in Settle and the brilliantly named Giggleswick https://www.visitsettle.co.uk/giggleswick.html
Perfect for a taste of Yorkshire village life and all the fine fare on offer.
Or come to the cave venue with the group as we drive through spectacular scenery and finish at the famous Ribblehead Viaduct where you can explore while we cave
This off-site day is relatively local so affords the opportunity to explore the delights of Oakworth and Haworth.
The Railway children was filmed in and around the area, Oakworth station is where you will be dropped off, from here you can take ‘the Railway Children’walk to Haworth or jump on the steam train, which runs between Keighley and Oxenhope, for one stop to Haworth.
Haworth is famously the home of the Bronte sisters and is like stepping back in time, walk the cobbles, visit the apothecary, sweet shop and the Bronte Parsonage Museum
Malham Cove & Goredale Scar day
On this day we spend practically all the day in the same area, apart from the visit to Billy Bobs Ice Cream Parlour of course, so the opting out option for this day is to come with us but take off an explore on your own and meet for a lift home later or get dropped off in Skipton.
Skipton is an ancient market town with a castle, plenty of shops, pubs and a canal system with short tours from the town.
